Paula Walsh - Senior Associate
Paula Walsh is a graduate of the Atlantic Police Academy in PEI and serves as a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), the Provincial policing agency. She has worked as a police officer for more than 28 years and is the proud mother of one son. Throughout her career, Paula has had responsibilities in many aspects of policing including assignments as the Executive Officer for the Chief of Police, front line Patrol, Criminal Investigation Division (Major Crime investigator), Professional Standards and Communications. She has received distinguished recognition in her career by being awarded the Exemplary Police Service Medal. Additionally, she has been awarded 'The Community Service Award' by her peers in the Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement organization.
Over twenty-five years ago, she began dealing with the media in Newfoundland & Labrador with her work in Community Services and later established the Crime Stoppers Program in the Province. Without a doubt, Paula is most recognized in the public eye as the "face" of the RNC. Having served as the Media Relations spokesperson for several years, Paula brings tremendous knowledge and first-hand experience in how to "hit the ground running" and deal with the media during crisis!
As an effective facilitator with exceptional organizational skills, coupled with her extensive training background, Ms. Walsh has the ability that is necessary for a Senior Associate of Jim Stanton & Associates.
Interestingly, her introduction to media relations began with Jim Stanton began many years ago as a graduate of his Media Communications course then offered by the Canadian Police College and the Public Information Officers course at the Emergency Preparedness College, Arnprior. She is a graduate of the Senior Police Leadership program and PEACE (interviewing techniques training) at Memorial University of Newfoundland as well as the Senior Police Administrators course at the Canadian Police College, Ottawa. She is an alumni of the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference which involved the study of diversity in Canada.
Her volunteer commitment has been recognized with the presentation of the NL Provincial medal for Volunteerism, the Canada 125 and the Queen's Jubilee medals. She has received the highest National recognition award from the Canadian Red Cross, the Order of Red Cross.
Paula has served on the National Board of Directors for the Canadian Red Cross, the Atlantic Zone Council and previously as NL Regional President for the organization. Her broad range of volunteer activities include having served as an Aide de Camp to the Lt. Governor of Newfoundland & Labrador, a member of the planning team for the Canadian Red Cross (2009) Atlantic Conference on Disaster Management, current Communications (co-chairperson) of the Avalon Dragon Boating Association, a member of the Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Moms Association and served on a local school council for several years.
Since the early 1990's, Paula has taught with Jim Stanton & Associates in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, BC and Yukon. She currently serves as a police supervisor and enjoys mentoring and coaching new police recruits for the RNC as a part of the Memorial University Police Studies Program in St. John's, NL.
