Muscular Dystrophy Conference in Vancouver
Jim was one of the plenary speakers at the British Columbia Firefighters Muscular Dystrophy Conference in Vancouver on November 8th.

Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Vancouver, BC & St. John's, NL
President Jim Stanton laid a wreath on behalf of Vancouver Royal United Services Institute. Jim was one of the people instrumental in getting the famous Legion poppy placed on city of Vancouver signs that surround Victory Square in honour of our veterans.
Senior Associate Cam Cathcart was Master of Ceremonies at the 91st Remembrance Day Ceremony at Victory Square in Vancouver, BC.
Senior Associate, Sgt. Paula M. Walsh, laid a wreath on behalf of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in St. John's, NL.

Jim spoke to GTIME #1 in Toronto, October 29th
Disaster Recovery Information Exchange Toronto (DRIE Toronto) and the Building Owners and Managers Association Toronto (BOMA Toronto) conducted the first Greater Toronto Incident Management Exchange (GTIME #1) event at the CNE.
This involved a table-top exercise which challenged participants by providing them with invaluable insight into an emergency scenario they could easily face. During the session, a state of the Microsoft technology art evaluation technology was used to capture each exercise input as it was competed.
A written post event report will be sent to all participants.
Jim was invited as the Key Note speaker and assist in the exercise process. Comments about Jim's presentation included:

Jim and Rick delivered a 1-day "Creative Media Relation's" workshop in Simcoe, Ontario to folks from Haldimand County and Norfolk County.
Participants were put through their paces and participated in simulated television and telephone interviews in the County Library.
Comments from participants included:

It was the end of the season for fall foliage but the images in Simcoe were quite outstanding.

We recently completed a 1-day Media Spokesperson Workshop with Vancouver Island Savings and Credit Union Senior Executives in Victoria BC.
The session was held in the Union Club, originally established as a "gentleman's club" in the 1860's, it overlooks Victoria's beautiful inner harbour and is beside the famous Empress Hotel.

Crisis Communications at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC)
Our highly acclaimed two-day Communicating in a Crisis workshop will be held at the JIBC on the dates noted below.
The workshop includes interactive training, on-camera media interviews, news conference preparation, handing media scrums and culminates with a half-day exercise on the JIBCs applied learning laboratory. Featuring innovative immersive simulation laboratory, the applied learning laboratory enables very realistic scenario training.

Media Relations workshop in Hamilton
Jim just finished conducting two, one-day media relations workshops in Hamilton, one for first responders and the second for communications and emergency management personnel. The sessions were held in a huge mansion, built by a Hamilton tobacco tycoon in 1895.

Grandfather clock dating from early 1800's, rooms have ceiling varying fro 10' to 16'. The woodwork was done by John Hoodless, a well-know furniture manufacturer in Hamilton at the time. |

Homeland Security Conference, Washington, DC, May 18, 2009
Jim was the only foreign delegate invited to speak to a joint Homeland
Security and National Association of Government Communicators conference at
the Reagan Center in Washington, DC.
His topic was: "The Science of Communications: We Need to Change With the
Times"
As a result of this presentation, Jim has been asked to sit on a Homeland
Security panel to examine the impact and response to the influences of the
New 2.0 Media.

World Conference on Disaster Management
Jim was a speaker at the 19th World Conference on Disaster Management in Toronto on July 22nd.
His topic, “Lead, follow or get out of the way,” demonstrated to communicators and business leaders, the importance of understanding how to use the New Media, in conjunction with the Old Media to get your messages out in times of uncertainty.
Joaquim Menezes from itworldcanada, covered jim’s presentation and has written a story for the magazine.

Emergency Preparedness Conference in Vancouver
Jim spoke on April 28th, to the Emergency Preparedness Conference in Vancouver. His topic, "Communicating in a Crisis," was rated by the participants as the most interesting presentation at the conference. The session was extremely timely as participants had to deal with preparing messages for an outbreak of an unknown illness.

Justice Institute of British Columbia
On April 2-3, 2009, Jim and Cam Cathcart presented a 2-day crisis communications course at the JIBC, New Westminster campus.
The participants especially liked the exercises done on the Hydra simulator, they felt this added realistic dimension to the workshop and many wanted to see the course expanded to three days, so they could all get a chance in each of the simulation pods.
