Crisis Communications at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC)
Jim will lead the popular Crisis Communications workshop again at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) this calendar year.
This workshop, EM120 - Communicating in a Crisis-Media Training, incorporates the latest proactive communications strategies, hand-on interview opportunities and a realistic crisis exercise in the JIBC's simulation center.
The workshop includes interactive training, on-camera media interviews, news conference preparation, handing media scrums and culminates with a half-day exercise on the JIBCs applied learning laboratory. Featuring innovative immersive simulation, the applied learning laboratory enables very realistic scenario training.
This highly acclaimed two-day Communicating in a Crisis workshop will be held at the JIBC on the dates noted below:

New Westminster Police Service
On June 28, we provided with New Westminster Police Service with a 1-day Media Spokesperson workshop. The recent retirement of their media relations officer, prompted the department to train his replacement and two other back-up officers.

World Conference on Disaster Management (WCDM), Toronto, June 8, 2010
"Jim was invited by the conference organizer's to present at the World Conference on Disaster Management. Jim's topic was 'That Was Then, This Is Now.'
Jim presented some of the changes that have taken place since the first WCDM was held in Hamilton, Ontario in 1990. The presentation was very well received by a capacity crowd.

Media Spokesperson Workshop
Jim delivered a 1-day Media Spokesperson Workshop in Kelowna, BC, on May 7th to members of the Kelowna Fire Department, RCMP, city of Kelowna and officials from five other surrounding municipalities.
He was assisted by RCMP Sgt. Dan Moskaluk. Dan has had major experience in handling the media at such well-known tragedies as the death of a back country skiers and the Revelstoke avalanche that killed snowmobilers this winter
Kelowna faced major interface fires in 2003, 2005 and 2009.
They realize there is the possibilities of fires this summer - dry weather is forecast - so they wanted to prepare their emergency information team.

Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference
Tacoma, Washington, April 6, 2010
Jim was the only Canadian invited to speak at the largest emergency planning conference held in the Pacific Northwest.
His presentation titled "Creating Partnerships with the New Media in Times of Uncertainty" was delivered to a standing-room only audience of more that 200 participants.

Media Relations workshop in Hamilton
Jim just finished conducting two, one-day media relations workshops in Hamilton, one for first responders and the second for communications and emergency management personnel. The sessions were held in a huge mansion, built by a Hamilton tobacco tycoon in 1895.

Homeland Security Conference, Washington, DC, May 18, 2009
Jim was the only foreign delegate invited to speak to a joint Homeland
Security and National Association of Government Communicators conference at
the Reagan Center in Washington, DC.
His topic was: "The Science of Communications: We Need to Change With the
Times"
As a result of this presentation, Jim has been asked to sit on a Homeland
Security panel to examine the impact and response to the influences of the
New 2.0 Media.
