Cameron Cathcart – Senior Associate

With a career as a broadcast journalist, television executive and media relations and communications practitioner that spans more than 30 years, Cam offers a range of practical experience, analytical skills and political savvy.

For 25 years, Cam was a reporter, foreign correspondent, producer and on-air host for CBC. From Ottawa, he reported on two Canadian federal elections, covered the Trudeau Minority Government and visited the Soviet Union with Canada's Foreign Minister. Cam served in Washington and at the United Nations. During this time he reported on the Nixon Congressional Impeachment Hearings, Watergate Trials, Richard Nixon's Resignation, Arafat's Visit to the UN, US Presidential Primaries, American foreign policy in Vietnam, Emergence of Jimmy Carter, US Conventions, US Presidential Election of 1976, 1977 London Economic Summit and subsequent world trips by Presidents Ford and Carter. After returning to Canada, Cam was Editor in Chief of local CBC-TV News in Toronto, Canada's largest urban community, for four years.

Following his retirement from the network, he was appointed to head the International Press Centre for the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games. For two years afterward Cam wrote a weekly column and edited a community newspaper in Vancouver, the West End Times. Six years ago he turned his skills to media relations, consulting, production and training. Cam has advised clients in the pharmaceutical industry and the gerontology community on communications strategy, the BC Liberal Party on television debating techniques, and assisted non-profit organizations with publicity and public relations. For three years during this time he and a partner developed, produced and distributed a radio series on food safety in French and English and broadcast on 130 radio stations in Canada.

For the past year, Cam edited and read the news on CKNW Radio in Vancouver. He has been delivering media relations and crisis communications training with Jim Stanton & Associates for the past two years. Cam Cathcart speaks to his audiences with candour, humour, warmth and in plain language.
