Cameron Cathcart – Senior Associate With
a career as a broadcast journalist, television executive and media
relations and communications practitioner that spans more than 30 years,
Cam offers a range of practical experience, analytical skills and
political savvy.
For 25 years, Cam was a reporter, foreign correspondent, producer and
on-air host for CBC. From Ottawa, he reported on two Canadian federal
elections, covered the Trudeau Minority Government and visited the
Soviet Union with Canada's Foreign Minister. Cam served in Washington
and at the United Nations. During this time he reported on the Nixon
Congressional Impeachment Hearings, Watergate Trials, Richard Nixon's
Resignation, Arafat's Visit to the UN, US Presidential Primaries,
American foreign policy in Vietnam, Emergence of Jimmy Carter, US
Conventions, US Presidential Election of 1976, 1977 London Economic
Summit and subsequent world trips by Presidents Ford and Carter. After
returning to Canada, Cam was Editor in Chief of local CBC-TV News in
Toronto, Canada's largest urban community, for four years.
Following his retirement from the network, he was appointed to head the
International Press Centre for the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games. For
two years afterward Cam wrote a weekly column and edited a community
newspaper in Vancouver, the West End Times. Six years ago he turned his
skills to media relations, consulting, production and training. Cam has
advised clients in the pharmaceutical industry and the gerontology
community on communications strategy, the BC Liberal Party on television
debating techniques, and assisted non-profit organizations with
publicity and public relations. For three years during this time he and
a partner developed, produced and distributed a radio series on food
safety in French and English and broadcast on 130 radio stations in
Canada.
For the past year, Cam edited and read the news on CKNW Radio in
Vancouver. He has been delivering media relations and crisis
communications training with Jim Stanton & Associates for the past two
years. Cam Cathcart speaks to his audiences with candour, humour, warmth
and in plain language.
